Questions ecommerce founders ask
Ecommerce ROAS FAQs.
Clear definitions help you avoid expensive comparisons.
Is 10X ROAS realistic for every ecommerce store?
No. It is an ambitious planning target, not a baseline or guarantee. Product demand, net AOV, contribution, conversion rate, channel mix, attribution and repeat behaviour all change what is achievable. Start with your own break-even and mature trading data.
How do I calculate break-even ROAS?
With consistent revenue and no extra loss adjustments, divide 1 by the contribution margin before ads. A 40% margin gives 2.5X. Contribution must deduct product, fulfilment, payment and other variable costs; gross product margin alone can overstate the room available for ads.
What CPA and CPC do I need for 10X ROAS?
Target purchase CPA = AOV ÷ 10. At ₹2,000 AOV, CPA is ₹200. If 3% of outbound clicks purchase, CPC must average ₹6 at that CPA. These figures are illustrative; use a matched click cohort and your own AOV/CVR.
Why can Meta ROAS disagree with GA4 or my store?
Platforms can use different attribution windows, view/click credit and conversion timing. Event duplication, tax, currency, consent, returns and cancelled orders also matter. Compare on a defined basis and reconcile unique backend orders instead of expecting every dashboard to match.
Should I pause every ad below 10X?
Not automatically. A campaign can miss 10X while remaining contribution-positive. Check break-even, data maturity and the agreed commercial constraint. Fix broken measurement first; pause mature losing tests or those that breach the defined risk limit.
Can repeat purchases justify a higher acquisition cost?
Sometimes, when settled customer cohorts show enough repeat contribution within an affordable payback window. Separate first-order ROAS from later revenue, include retention costs and never assume future lifetime value that has not been observed.
